FAQ

🤔 Still unsure?

Choosing the right grip

For most beginners, the best place to start is Polipole Grip ✅ — it’s the most versatile formula and gives a balanced hold for typical training sessions.
If you’re still slipping a lot, here’s the simple upgrade path:
  • choose Dry 🌬️ if you want a more “dry” feel and you need extra support when you sweat
  • use Sticky Mania 🔥 only when you want maximum grip (a little goes a long way)

In general, spinning pole tends to feel “slipperier” because you’re managing rotation + momentum, so many athletes prefer a stronger hold. A good starting point is:
  • Spinning pole 🌀: start with Grip, and if you still feel insecure, add a small touch of Sticky Mania for extra hold ✅
  • Static pole 🧷: Grip is usually enough; if you want a drier feel (or more free during transitions), go with Dry 🌬️

Remember one important thing ⚖️: it also depends on your skin type. If your skin is very dry or you sweat a lot, you might need a different grip than you’d expect (and the best rule is often: “use a small amount, then build it in light layers”).

You can but you might not want to, and here’s why:
  • 🧼 Regular hand soap does not remove all greasy residues, nor the dead skin that creates a slippery layer between your skin and the equipment.
  • 🍽️Dish soap in particular is far too aggressive. That “quick-fix” can mess up your skin barrier, not only ageing it faster but also causing more problems in the long run.

Skin Prep is meant to be a training step: it helps reset your skin by removing residue + providing a grippy base. Your grip formula (Dry / Grip / Sticky Mania) performs even better and for longer when applied after. If you’re slipping because of buildup (old grip, body lotion, sunscreen, etc.), Skin Prep is usually the cleaner, more reliable fix.

You can learn how to prepare your skin, for best results here.

Even if it’s less noticeable, dry skin can be as problematic as sweat-prone skin when it comes to pole dance.
If your legs feel dry and you want more comfort plus better hold, Skin Booster is the go-to. Its formula with vitamins and amino acids is designed to support the skin while improving the grip on dry areas.
Both your skin and your practice will thank you✨

If you want an alternative to chalk, you can use a grip formula designed for pole dance and aerial disciplines. Many athletes and studios choose this route because it can feel cleaner and more consistent than chalk, while still giving strong hold.
  • Sweaty hands: start with Dry as a base, then add Grip or Sticky Mania if you need extra hold.
  • Dry skin on legs/body contact: choose Skin Booster to improve body grip while nourishing dry areas.
  • Maximum hold: choose Sticky Mania for a stronger, “glue-like” grip. If you want the easiest first routine, start with the Grip Set.

It depends on why you slip (and yes, there’s always a reason 😉): sweaty hands, dry skin on contact points, or you simply need maximum stickiness.

Why am I slipping?

Yes — they can. Many lotions and sunscreens leave a film on the skin, and that layer can reduce friction, so you may start slipping more (especially once you warm up during training).
What to do ✅: before training, try to start with clean, dry skin. If you’ve applied lotion/sunscreen, do a quick reset with Skin Prep (Polipole’s gripping soap), rinse, dry really well, then apply your grip in a small amount and build in light layers if needed.

A cold pole can feel more slippery because your skin and the metal don’t “grip” the same way at low temperature. Your body also takes time to warm up, so at the start of training you often have less natural tackiness and less consistent contact—especially on spins and fast transitions.
What to do ✅:
  • Warm up longer so your skin and grip points heat up gradually 🔥
  • Start with a small amount of product and build in light layers (don’t over-apply) ⚖️
  • If your skin is very dry (especially legs/body grip) → you may want to reach for Skin Booster to grip and care in one step 🧴
  • If you’re doing a quick reset mid-session: wipe, use Skin Prep gripping soap, dry well, then reapply a small amount of you favourite Polipole

Yes — it can. When you’re stressed or nervous, your body can react with sweat changes (more moisture, different sweat pattern) and tension (you squeeze harder, move less smoothly), and both can make grip feel less consistent.
What to do ✅: keep it practical—start with a small amount of product, give it a few seconds to set, and build in light layers. If you notice your hands getting damp mid-session, do a quick reset with Skin Prep (Polipole’s gripping soap), dry well, then reapply a small amount.

This can happen for a few common reasons: your skin changes during training (warmth, humidity, more sweat), your skin wasn’t fully clean/dry, or you used too much product (over-applying can create a layer that starts to feel slippery).
Another big reason ✅: you might be using the wrong product for your skin and the area you’re gripping with:
  • If you get “wetter” as you train → aim for a drier feel formula  like Polipole Dry and build in light layers 🌬️
  • If you need more “stick” to stay attached (often in spin) → you likely need Sticky Mania 🔥
  • If your skin is very dry (especially legs/body grip) → you may want to reach for Skin Booster to grip and care in one step 🧴
  • If grip worked then stopped → do a quick reset: wipe hands/pole, wash with Skin Prep (Polipole’s gripping soap), dry well, then reapply a small amount 🧼

This usually happens because your skin changes during training (it warms up, you start sweating more, humidity builds up), so what worked at the start may not be enough later. Another common reason is over-applying: too much product can create a layer that starts to feel slippery once it mixes with sweat.
What to do ✅: do a quick reset — clean the equipment with 90° alcohol, then use Skin Prep gripping soap to wash the skin, dry well, and reapply a small amount of grip. If needed, build in light layers instead of adding a lot at once.

About Polipole grips

Less than you think. Start with a small amount, then add a little more only if you need it.
A simple rule:
  • 1 light layer → test grip
  • if needed, build gradually with small extra layers (especially with Dry, which can take a few minutes to reach full effect) ⏳

Polipole formulas are designed to be equipment-friendly ✅ and to support grip without being aggressive on surfaces when used as directed. They’re also:
  • THEPOLE tested 🧪 (equipment-focused testing)
  • IPSF approved for ease of removal 🧼

Polipole formulas are vegan ✅ (no animal-derived ingredients) and made in Italy

It depends on the formula:
  • Grip / Sticky Mania: usually wait a few seconds ✅, then test your first grip. If you need more hold, add a small extra layer (better than applying a lot at once).
  • Dry: it can take a few minutes to reach the full effect ⏱️. If needed, you can build it gradually with light layers.

Yes — Polipole formulas are designed to be easy to remove, and IPSF has approved Polipole for ease of removal 🧽.
If product has been layered and it’s “sitting” on the pole, here’s the quickest method:
    • spray 90° alcohol 🧴 directly on the spot
    • wait a few seconds ⏳
    • wipe with Pole Tamer/paper towel 🧻

How to apply Polipole grips (and get the best results)

Use a small amount first and test it before adding more—let it set for a few seconds, then try a couple of grips/climbs/spins and only top up if you really need it.
For the best results, prep your base: wash with Skin Prep before training (or when you feel buildup), then apply your favourite Polipole grip on clean, dry skin. ✅
Remember: you can combine all Polipole formulas and layer them based on what you need , but never apply Dry on top of a sticky product (like Grip  or Sticky Mania) because it can reduce/kill the stickiness.

Yes, layering can work well. A common routine is Skin Prep first (base), then Dry or Grip depending on your session. Keep it simple at first, then adjust based on results. 🔁

  • Removing the grip from the skin: he effect usually wears off naturally over time. If you’ve used a significant amount of product or if your skin is extremely dry, simply use our Skin Prep soap 🫧 to easily remove any remaining stickiness.
  • Removing grip residues from the pole: Since our formulas are tested for pole compatibility, you can use our grips directly on the pole without ruining it. To remove the grip after the session, just use 90° alcohol. To make it easier and faster, we recommend using our high-density microfiber cloth, the Pole Tamer.

Ingredients in Grip Products

Because grip sits on your skin for training, and some ingredients can trigger irritation, especially if you’re sensitive. Some more ingredients can be harmful to the extent of disrupting your hormones, interfering with fertility, and contributing to cancer. Knowing what’s inside helps you avoid unnecessary discomfort and risks.

This article highlights five common categories to watch for:
  • ❌ Methyl glycol (also called methylene glycol / methanediol)
  • ❌ Acrylates
  • ❌ Aluminum-based antiperspirant ingredients
  • ❌ Silicones
  • ❌ Petroleum derivative

All Polipole formulas are free from toxic/concerning ingredients and are made in Italy with top-quality ingredients.

Methyl glycol (also known as methylene glycol / methanediol, and referenced as 2-methoxyethanol in the article) is described as a highly concerning solvent. It is banned for use in cosmetic products in the EU, and, beyond health concerns, strong solvents can also be risky around pole coatings if contact happens while the product is still wet.

Acrylates are synthetic polymers used in plastics and sometimes in cosmetic-style formulas. They can be irritating for some people, contribute to microplastic pollution, and create a plastic-like coating on coated poles that is hard to remove if it dries.

Some products may use aluminum-based compounds similar to antiperspirants. Some research suggests that aluminum-containing underarm antiperspirants, which are applied frequently and left on the skin near the breast, may be absorbed by the skin and have estrogen-like (hormonal) effects.
You can learn more about it by reading this article.

Certain silicones (like Cyclotetrasiloxane) can persist in the environment and may be harmful due to bioaccumulation and toxicity concerns. If you care about environmental impact, this is one of the categories to check on labels.
Some of these ingredients have also been discussed for potential endocrine (hormone-disrupting) risk, which is another reason they’re closely monitored and restricted in some contexts. Cyclotetrasiloxane is now globally restricted, but still found in some grip products.
