Federica Liuzzo: From the Olympics to Cirque du Soleil to Qatar, a journey of talent and freedom.

Federica Liuzzo is not only a dancer, aerial acrobat, and pole dancer extraordinaire (you can see her wonderful performance on the Italian TV program Dalla strada al Palco From the Road to the Stage here): she is a woman who has turned her passion into a path of growth, inspiration, and freedom.

Her career is an exciting journey that has taken her from Italian stages to the heart of the Middle East, leaving an indelible mark wherever she has passed.
Since childhood, Federica has found in the art of movement her most authentic expression. She started with rhythmic gymnastics at the age of six, and then perfected her skills under the guidance of some of the greatest masters in the field. Today she teaches Pole Dance and Aerial Disciplines in Turin, at Spazio Sapo, and online through the POLE-MOOD platform.

From Olympic spotlights to Cirque du Soleil

Federica’s professional debut came in 2006 with an extraordinary performance at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, alongside Kataklò. From that moment, her career took off: she was selected as an artist for Cirque du Soleil, worked with the prestigious Circo Togni, and was part of the aerial acrobat company Sonics. In 2014, she won the title of Italian champion in Pole Dance and Pole Sport, as well as a prestigious third place at Pole Art in Switzerland. But her journey was not without obstacles: a serious accident threatened to stop her, but her determination prevailed.

Qatar: a challenge and a discovery

In 2018, Federica Liuzzo embarked on an unexpected adventure: Qatar. A young country, with a population of about 3.12 million people and an average age of 33.8, where 88.4 percent of the inhabitants are expatriates, often engaged in low-skilled jobs. Against this backdrop, Federica found a fascinating and complex reality of contrasts between tradition and modernity.

In Doha, she began teaching at Brava Studio Dance Qatar, bringing her art to an international audience. Her students, women between the ages of 15 and 50, came from all over the world, including many Qatari women.

Sport and freedom: the power of aerobatics

Federica’s classes were not just an opportunity to train, but a space for freedom. The stretching classes were mixed, but the aerial acrobatics classes were reserved for women, allowing them to remove their veils and wear Western clothes, expressing themselves without barriers. In a country where women still need a male guardian’s permission to marry, travel or work, moments like these took on profound value.
The Qatari government encourages the practice of sports: every year, on the second Tuesday in February, it celebrates National Sports Day, an event dedicated to promoting health among its citizens.

Federica Liuzzo witnessed firsthand significant changes in Qatari society, such as women’s access to the right to vote. But more importantly, she saw the transformation of her female students: women who, through dance and acrobatics, rediscovered their own bodies and power. For many of the female students, Federica’s classes represented a space for emancipation and self-determination.

A farewell full of emotion

By the time Federica left Qatar to return to Italy, the bond with her students was deep and continued at a distance. To them, she was not only a teacher but an inspiration. Her journey, which began out of a love of art and movement, had turned into something much bigger: a bridge between cultures, a symbol of freedom, and a testament to how much sports can change lives.
